From opera singer to actress in dramas, the multi-talented Emmy Rossum refuses to be pigeonholed. The star of Shamelss talked to us about bullying, diets and how she stays true to herself.
It’s testing day for the dress for the Met Costume Institute Gala in New York and Emmy Rossum is in good spirits. “I’m excited,” she says, while smiling and enjoying the sunny afternoon in Manhattan where she grew up. “We will try out different types of fabric for the dress, so it’ll be fun.” The actress and singer, who is her own stylist for red carpet events, says: “The theme is punk, so we can experiment a little.” It is the second time the 26 year old girl is attending this event. “It’s a chance to take your fashion a little further than normally.”
Although she’s now taking a break from the critically acclaimed television series shameless (the shooting of season four begins in September), in which she plays the rough Fiona, Rossum has been unstoppable in recent months. Her calendar includes the release of her second album sentimental journey, the premiere of the film beautiful creatures (2013), starring alongside Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson, and recently wrapped production of the drama you’re not you, with Hilary Swank and Josh Duhamel. It was shot in Los Angeles, where she lives.
