Emmy as Anastasia Steele in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’?!
May 26, 2012
Now, don’t get too excited kids! This has not been confirmed! An article by Ryan Arciero of Examiner.com lists our Emmy and Alexis Bledel as the top picks to play Ana in a film adaptation of the book.
Still others say that until the actor to play Christian Grey has been decided, no surefire star for Ana can be found. The chemistry, passion, and soul mate attraction between the two is indeed integral to the very novel. Nonetheless, a recent Twitter poll voted Alexis Bledel and Emmy Rossum as top contenders.
I haven’t read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ but for those of you who have, what do you think of our girl playing Anastasia?

Claire,
I know that you want to hear from those who read the book, which I have not as I only heard about it recently and haven’t had time with trying to finish this semester of Graduate school. However, I know a good bit about it and I think Anastasia Steele would be a very interesting role to see Emmy in. In the film “DARE” and in “SHAMELESS,” Emmy has played women who are in control and in a lot of ways is sexually dominate. I for one would be interested to see how Emmy plays a girl who is more submissive and under someone else’s control. Now, as you say, this hasn’t been confirmed anywhere and Emmy may not even have an interest in the role or may not take it because of the controversial and scandalous nature of the material. But I want to say here and now that I will support Emmy in the project and as someone who has followed and studied her since 2004, I will be fascinated to see how/if she can pull this off.

Kinda hope she stays far away from this one unless they get someone really, really good to do the movie, to be honest. :/ It’s not the content that bothers me so much as the fact that it’s basically Twilight fanfiction and from what I’ve heard – not even all that well written. But, we’ll see what happens.

Idolette I completely agree with you! It’s not the material itself that bothers me, it’s what it’s a part of. It just seems a little too Twilight related for my liking. But if she does end up doing it I will of course be supportive
It’s just not the direction I’m rooting for her to go in. I’d love to see her do more “intellectual” stuff. But it probably could be a huge career move, because there sure would be money in it. I just don’t like it when things get too “accessible” (for lack of a better word) or mainstream. Like I said, I’d love to see her get more intellectual.

It just seems a little lowbrow. I’d like to see her do more quality stuff.

I know exactly what you mean Kat. While the content isn’t my favorite thing in the world (I’m afraid of the creepy comments that would ensue – haha!), I could deal with it IF they handled it in a good way. To me, the books don’t seem to have a good message other than, well, what the book’s about, so I don’t really think the project, as a whole, would be something I’m interested in seeing. But, like you, I would definitely support Emmy and probably get it on DVD when it comes out (don’t think I’d be seeing that one in theaters, lol!).

I haven’t read the book. I hope she stays away from such roles. We have enough of those. What we need is something worthy to see and be proud of.
