I also would recommend heading over to Spotify if you use it for an exclusive cut of the album with commentary for each track! For those of you who have purchased and listened to the album, what do you think? Do you have a favorite track, a least favorite? Do you like it more or less than Inside Out?

  1. Although I have been waiting ever so patiently for a follow up to “Inside Out”, I was a little skeptical when I heard about “Sentimental Journey”. Even at my age, I have never listened to pre 1960′s music. My mom did play a lot of folk music, Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, which I enjoyed.

Anyway, I figured it had to be good, because it would be a showcase for Emmy’s voice, which I adore. As I typically do, when I really enjoy a CD, I have been listening non stop and not skipping songs. The two songs I keep singing over and over in my head are “Things” and “I’ll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time”, in which I find the three point harmony irresistible. Reminds me of the harmonies I loved so much in “Inside Out”. I remember listening, on the transistor radio, to “Things” by Bobby Darin. It’s a great upbeat song and Emmy’s version makes it fresh. I always enjoy a song with a message, so I also really like “Pretty Paper”. I’m not a lover of jazz, but the “jazzy” type, slower songs are growing on me. The familiar songs, “Sentimental Journey” and “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover” are great too! Emmy singing in French for Autumn Leaves melts me away. The song that is not sticking with me is, “All I Do Is Dream Of You”, so that would be my least favorite.

The CD really does showcase Emmy’s voice. It seems to be richer, more mature, and more capable of nuance. She’s having a great time singing these songs! It sure shows how capable she is of taking the lead in a Broadway musical, which is has always been my wish for her. I still love “Inside Out” more because she wrote the songs and it’s personal, it’s a genre of music I like more, and I admire all the work and effort she put into that album.

    Super Bowl Time!!

  2. I bought Sentimental Journey Saturday. Of all the tracks These Foolish Things, Things, Pretty Paper and Autmn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes) are my faves. I like it the same as Inside Out but this is Emmy’s voice as fresh and pure as she gets, minus the vocal layering. Her voice has really developed and matured since POTO and Inside Out. Overall, I like it that she makes old new again. Unlike singers of today, Emmy’s music is real artistry.

  3. Most of the ones you listed are on my favorites, too! :) I love this CD because I think, like you said, it shows how far she’s grown as a vocalist since POTO came out.

  4. I’m quite fond of Things, too, but I have to say, my second favorite (after These Foolish Things) is probably All I Do is Dream Of You. Not sure why, I just really enjoy the song. I love Pretty Paper, around Christmas time, but I will admit to skipping it on the album just because of it being a Christmas song. And I also, weirdly enough, really love Keep Young and Beautiful.

I think I may be in the minority when I say that I enjoy this CD more than Inside Out. Which isn’t anything against Inside Out, because I, too, admire the effort that she put into it, and that she wrote the songs, but for some reason, Sentimental Journey just speaks to me more.
